This bug is not fixed.  My options, nearly a year after being first
reported, seem to be either erase the entire disk, or install something
other than ubuntu.  Installing over an older ubuntu doesn't work, and
installing alongside other installs doesn't work, and "something else"
doesn't work.  It also destroyed my ability to log into old versions,
except a 2014 version sitting on a different disk.  It seems that ubuntu
will simply never be ready for the masses, and I'm not a tech idiot, I'm
just also not a grub wizard.
