I initially setup my system with ubuntu 14.04 (some years ago) There I (obviously) installed mysql and worked with it Later I upgraded to ubuntu 16.04 Now I realized that mysql is not available as a package. But the configuration etc. seems to still be there in /etc/mysql I decided to install mysql via: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-mysql-on-ubuntu-16-04 namely: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql_secure_installation The error here occurs at: sudo apt-get install mysql-server Thanks for taking care.
