I have an hp pavilion dv9500 with the same audio problem. I have been
using gutsy since tribe 1. Hoping for a resolution to this ongoing
problem. Evidently their is a bug in the kernel. The kernel developers
have been aware of it for some time and it has been resolved. If you
upgrade to the latest stable version 2.6.23.1 and I believe you need to
upgrade alsa to latest version 1.015 also. Or you can download Fedora 8
live version to check it out on your hardware. Live cd works flawlessly
on my machine. Compiz cube, wireless and sound out of the box. Ubuntu
developers just need to make these upgrades.
