somehow, on Feisty Fawn i did manage to solve this problem, using a strange combination of settings which i don't remember any more :(
Now on a fresh install of Gutsy Gibbon, suspend doesn't work anymore, showing the colored screen once again on every resume. I'm pretty sure it's related to the way that the kernel or video driver handles the memory of the video board while suspending and resuming. If there is the need for the details, i'll be happy to provide the updated ones.
