Public bug reported:

I have a machine with two disks.
On the first was ran an installation of Ubuntu 6.10
The second disk was for backup reasons, though partioned exactly the same.
Yesterday, I installed Ubuntu 7.10 on this second disk (with the intention of
the first one to simply become a backup).
The installation went flawlessly, except for the grub part.
I had hoped to arrive in a dual boot situation so I could still boot Ubuntu
6.10 on the first disk in case this installation failed.
My startup options are Ubuntu 7 exclusive.
No more signs of the 6.10.
This should not have been overwritten but merged.
Or at least a warning should have been shown.
