On an HP Pavillion dv6568 sound would not work even after installing alsa 1.0.15. The only single thing that made sound work was to change model to acer. I added at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base the following line: options snd-hda-intel model=acer After a reboot that worked fine. (Haven't really tried headphones or mic yet though)
