Hi, I can confirm this on an Acer laptop with nvidia graphics, Feisty, no desktop effects.
Thanks Rafaelgarcia for your comment... you help me realise the problem too :) Removing the openoffice.org-gtk package is all you need to do. It will no longer look as nice, but presentations work. Perhaps this problem is down to a mixture of bugs in the GTK theme and openoffice.org-gtk support? Blubuntu was in use here.
