Dash to Dock works for me but pretty much nothing else does, including the apparently "officially supported" classic applications menu.
Intentional breakage eh, nice of the GNOME team to confuse all the users and provide a super helpful "Error." message.... long as things are easier for the devs, what do users matter.....
