I removed snap because of this issue and because of the developer responses. This is really a very basic good-neighbor policy that all software should respect - and by and large, almost all other software I've used in the last decade does. There is in my mind no justifiable excuse for putting off a fix for more than 3 years, even in the face of clear and very respectful user feedback about its poor reception. For me this falls in the same category as adware and annoying third party "update check" background apps like Oracle's Java Update.
