Stanley, I have no parallel interface on my laptop. So that's not possible.
I have to use the brother printer next week on a conference. Perhaps buying an usb-printer-server is an option.. But it's a little crazy that i should think of such a work-around, because the printer works ok with an other laptop with xubuntu gutsy.
