OK, which debian/rules?

there is one in mplayer_1.0~rc2.orig.tar.gz, but that must be the same
as in my release tarball.

There are modifications in the form of a patch in
mplayer_1.0~rc2-0ubuntu1~gutsy1.diff.gz.

So, should I unpack both, patch the orig and then pickup the configure
file and stick it in the release tree ?
