The workaround worked for me also and fixed the problem:

$ sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libxmlbird.so.1 /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/libxmlbird.so.1.0

Maybe someone responsible for distribution of ubuntu ISO could put this
link to next release of ubuntu 16.04 ??  I did not check if 18.04 is
also effected, but could do ...
