I'm the main developer behind this application and I'd be more than happy to provide assistance or even maintain it. My development platform is Ubuntu and its already included on some Ubuntu-derived distros like Guadalinex or Linex. Further, there's a blueprint where this package is mentioned and proposed https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/gprs-connection-out-of-the-box although it needs guidance.
