I found a thread discussing how Fedora handled the side-by-side
installation for their RPM packages: http://www.omniorb-
support.com/pipermail/omniorb-list/2017-August/031921.html

Is there anything fundamental preventing an updated package? Given that
there are only two months left for Python2, the only alternative for me
would be to drop support for Ubuntu in the affected projects, which
would be a shame.
