I could not reproduce the issue with multiple notify send. When it happened I was receiving notifications from a Chrome extension called Pushbullet (forwards Android notifications on your desktop and other stuff). I suppose however that Chrome uses the notify-send to do so, as they look native gnome notifications.
About the journal, I didn't notice anything. Can you suggest me what to look at and where?
