Okay, I found how I "fixed" the large font issue. In my kdmrc file i told the server I had a ridiculously small dpi. Here's the line:
ServerCmd=/usr/bin/X -br -dpi 40 Even though I have a about 100 DPI screen and have specified the screen size in xorg.conf, I have to do this to get reasonable font sizes.
