** Description changed: This upstream bug effects Ubuntu kernels as well. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201271 This question on AskUbuntu is someone else having the same problem. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1070246/dell-latitude-5490-not-coming- back-from-sleep-mode This kernel.org bug is exactly what I'm experiencing in the Ubuntu kernel. For me it's ~90% of the time the display turns off (i.e. on idle, before suspend) the system stays on (power LED is on, fan stays on) and it is unresponsive. I am unable to switch to TTY either. It requires a 4-second power button press to reboot the system. As stated in the bug, sometimes the system light on the front blinks with the CPU error code - orange orange white. The following kernel parameter in GRUB fixes it: i915.enable_dc=0 + Bug exists in Ubuntu 19.10's current kernel as well. + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04 5.0.0.37.95 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.0.0-37.40~18.04.1-generic 5.0.21 Uname: Linux 5.0.0-37-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.9 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Fri Dec 13 15:50:04 2019 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-12-11 (2 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20190805) ProcEnviron: - TERM=xterm-256color - PATH=(custom, no user) - XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + TERM=xterm-256color + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=<set> + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-meta-hwe UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
