First posting by newbie. I can confirm that installation of 2.9.2 from Cosmic onto 18.04 does work by following procedure at https://makandracards.com/makandra/47558-how-to-install-packages-from- newer-ubuntu-releases. I couldn't figure out how to manually download packages per iGadget but that gave me enough confidence to at least pursue an different solution.
