I'm not sure how relevant this is to other people reporting this problem, but up until today, I've been rolling my own kernel and manually installing the Nvidia driver. Today I decided (for various reasons) to revert to the Ubuntu stock kernel and driver and have found that the crash no longer happens.
So certainly in my own case, using the stock kernel fixes this bug. I have a feeling though that it might be some underlying mis-match between various GLX-related modules. GLX wasn't initially working when I reverted kernels (but at least not crashing X) and I found from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=378982 that the installation of Ubuntu's Nvidia driver was failing to over-write the links to other versions of a lot of libraries. Sorting out those links enabled GLX for me, without the crashes. -- xorg crashing( sig11) / gutsy / vesa w/ Backtrace https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
