Yes, installing bochsbios from hardy ( http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/b/bochs/bochsbios_2.3+20070705-2ubuntu1_all.deb ) also made my XP-VM work again! Thanks Daniel, for the hint!
