I have submitted a merge request to mark the test as bad.

Wearing my Ubuntu Core Dev hat I don't want to carry this as a delta and
wearing my DD hat I would not find a request to carry such change in
many packages of Debian reasonable either.

Making autopkgtest cross-testing capable is the most promising approach IMO, 
till then the hint will be enough.
