We need to doublecheck if the hardware supports efibootmgr variable
updates correctly. Such that one can change them, and changes persist
across reboots.

I think you can use FWTS from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirmwareTestSuite
i think to see if efi fw is "good" on that system.
