I had a similar problem and just managed to solve it for me: 1) as you all described already, make sure to have the page you want as your homepage and the drop-down menu above set to "Show my homepage" 2) and this was my problem: in Ubunu, go to System->Preferences->Preferred Applications and make sure that the default web browser is set to "firefox" and not "custom".
