Thanks Hassan for filing this report and for linking to the upstream bug. The upstream bug mentions it's fixed in the upcoming version 5.7.31 of MySQL, but I couldn't find any recent commit at:
https://github.com/mysql/mysql-server/tree/5.7 which seems to be the official public git repo, but I'm not familiar with the development model of MySQL.
