** Description changed: It may be a duplicate but I haven't found anything similar. I am reporting here since this is an ubuntu package problem although I have tried the official stable and beta releases provided by AMD as well. I installed fglrx and then reboot it but the system hangs. I also tried using the command aticonfig --initial -f but again no effect. I entered as root and used startx and here I provide the error log. It seems that there is a problem with reading the VBIOS. - [ 37.661] + [ 37.661] X.Org X Server 1.13.0 Release Date: 2012-09-05 [ 37.664] X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 [ 37.665] Build Operating System: Linux 3.2.0-30-generic x86_64 Ubuntu - [ 37.667] Current Operating System: Linux micdhack-SonyUbuntu 3.5.0-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 11 18:51:59 UTC 2012 x86_64 + [ 37.667] Current Operating System: Linux m-SonyUbuntu 3.5.0-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 11 18:51:59 UTC 2012 x86_64 [ 37.667] Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-21-generic.efi.signed root=UUID=ff2bb0f9-b45a-4e72-871e-9463d0ab0c66 ro recovery nomodeset [ 37.669] Build Date: 08 October 2012 03:34:01PM - [ 37.671] xorg-server 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 (For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support) + [ 37.671] xorg-server 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 (For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support) [ 37.672] Current version of pixman: 0.26.0 [ 37.675] Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org - to make sure that you have the latest version. + to make sure that you have the latest version.
