Lenovo Ideapad S540-14API Ubuntu Mate 20.04 user here: Same bug affects me very much. Black screen on boot, probably only when on battery-only during boot. The workaround mentioned in #3 works for me, but the battery runtime is halved. The workaround in #5 has the effect of no video during vlc media player playback.
