Neither 111 nor 109 kernel nor any older would work with a full boot into system.
So I was advised to get rid of the amdgpu drivers and make sure the open source AMD drivers are installed. https://amdgpu-install.readthedocs.io/en/latest/install-installing.html #uninstalling-the-amdgpu-graphics-stack amdgpu-uninstall https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-the-latest-amd-radeon-drivers-on- ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-linux sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers sudo apt-get update sudo apt update && sudo apt -y upgrade Additionally I installed https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack though I am not sure if I had to also use that. Possibly simply uninstalling the amdgpu drivers that are not compatible with the latest kernel and switching to the open source Mesa release drivers would also have been an option, though this is speculation. Regardless with the open source AMD drivers I do not have any AER issues (could also not get rid of those with pcie="noaer") and can enjoy a full boot into the system with latest kernel and all updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1888070 Title: latest update freezes system on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/1888070/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
