The first step would be to make the changes adopted upstream: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/utils/mdadm/mdadm.git/ If you submitted it upstream and this get approved in a timely fashion, with sil2100's approval (if he is agreed with it), we could possibly in conjunction with the current bug fix add it. But I want to mention that there is no guarantee, and this could add extra delay for the package release.
