The env var XDG_SESSION_TYPE contains 'tty'. Plank can start with this command line : XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11 plank As a quick and dirty fix I run manually every time i start a new remote session : XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11 nohup plank >/dev/null I dont know if it is a mate-desktop, plank or x2go bug ?
