Just happened for me too, on a 20.04 kubuntu system. apt upgrade output: Setting up grub-efi-amd64-signed (1.142.9+2.04-1ubuntu26.7) ... Installing grub to /boot/efi. Installing for x86_64-efi platform. grub-install: warning: Internal error. grub-install: error: failed to register the EFI boot entry: Operation not permitted.
Window popped up too. Manual grub-install fails in the same way that apt installation does: # grub-install Installing for x86_64-efi platform. grub-install: warning: Internal error. grub-install: error: failed to register the EFI boot entry: Operation not permitted. According to /var/log/apt/history.log those grub packages were upgraded: grub-common:amd64 (2.04-1ubuntu26.6, 2.04-1ubuntu26.7) grub2-common:amd64 (2.04-1ubuntu26.6, 2.04-1ubuntu26.7) grub-pc:amd64 (2.04-1ubuntu26.6, 2.04-1ubuntu26.7) grub-pc-bin:amd64 (2.04-1ubuntu26.6, 2.04-1ubuntu26.7) grub-efi-amd64-bin:amd64 (2.04-1ubuntu26.6, 2.04-1ubuntu26.7) grub-efi-amd64-signed:amd64 (1.142.8+2.04-1ubuntu26.6, 1.142.9+2.04-1ubuntu26.7) Did not yet try to restart the PC either. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872212 Title: grub-install: Operation not permitted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+bug/1872212/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
