Have tried upstream kernels up to 5.10.0 but the same issue persists.

However, details in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1884232 and the
error I'm seeing in dmesg regarding i2c resource claim:

[    2.603908] platform i2c_designware.0: failed to claim resource 0:
[mem 0x00000000-0x000001ff]

made me try adding the pci=nocrs option to kernel option, and this has
solved the problem. xinput now shows

FTCS1000:00 2808:0101 Touchpad              id=11   [slave  pointer
(2)]

along with a Mouse option. Touchpad options now show in 'Gnome-
settings', and features working.
