@jsarka, Thanks for those clear instructions! As it turns out I already figured out (I hope) how to revert to kernel 5.4. That has brought back my wifi. If other things go bonkers, I'll get 5.8 back and follow your steps.
The bump to 5.8 broke several things on my system, which is why I first tried downgrading kernels.
