Hi Daniel,

I was able to get a few minutes to reboot.  I also applied all the
latest updates and created a new user with only the default home
directory contents.  I was able to reproduce the issue with thunar.

I've been playing around with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment variable
for some time but haven't found any extra debug output, at least not at
the command line.  Is there some other log file I should check?
Regardless, I added it to /etc/environment to ensure any GDK daemons
inherits it.
