it looks like you're still using the "i8042.reset" parameter like in
comment #4, not the "i8042.nopnp". Can you help us to check again?

If "i8042.nopnp" is not working for you (which you should see in your
dmesg if added properly), the last trial and error would be adding
"i8042.noloop i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.reset" to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
