Public bug reported: The internal microphone is not detected when I use the stock kernel 5.8.0-40-generic: pavucontrol does not show it in the list of input devices, the applications like Zoom or Skype do not see it too.
It looks similar to https://askubuntu.com/questions/1277606/internal- microphone-not-working-on-lenovo-thinkpad-e14-gen-2-amd. I tried the workaround mentioned there: switched to kernel 5.9.0-050900-generic from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.9/amd64/ - and now the microphone was detected and seemed to work OK (I checked that with pavucontrol and Zoom). Here is the output of 'pacmd list-sources' for the kernels I tried: 5.8.0-40-generic: ------------------ 1 source(s) available. * index: 0 name: <alsa_output.pci-0000_05_00.6.analog-stereo.monitor> driver: <module-alsa-card.c> flags: DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY state: SUSPENDED suspend cause: IDLE priority: 1030 volume: front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB, front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB balance 0,00 base volume: 65536 / 100% / 0,00 dB volume steps: 65537 muted: no current latency: 0,00 ms max rewind: 0 KiB sample spec: s16le 2ch 44100Hz channel map: front-left,front-right Stereo used by: 0 linked by: 0 fixed latency: 100,14 ms monitor_of: 0 card: 0 <alsa_card.pci-0000_05_00.6> module: 7 properties: device.description = "Monitor of Family 17h (Models 10h-1fh) HD Audio Controller Analog Stereo" device.class = "monitor" alsa.card = "1" alsa.card_name = "HD-Audio Generic" alsa.long_card_name = "HD-Audio Generic at 0xfd3c0000 irq 99" alsa.driver_name = "snd_hda_intel" device.bus_path = "pci-0000:05:00.6" sysfs.path = "/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:08.1/0000:05:00.6/sound/card1" device.bus = "pci" device.vendor.id = "1022" device.vendor.name = "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. I am not sure if this is an issue in the kernel, or in pulseaudio, or in some other software. Filing this bug against 'linux' package now, because the issue did not show up with kernel 5.9.
