Just an update to #17 - I've since had to turn this off because it destabilized my Pop! OS install terribly. I was seeing 3-5 hard lockups a day.
Since I turned it off it's been rock solid. Still super sad that there aren't the resources necessary to fix such a show stopper for low vision people.
