Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

As the title says, Gnome-panel freezes until the SMB share is loaded by
Nautilus. Shouldn't Gnome-panel be creating a new thread to handle the
network latency? On days when the SMB shares are especially slow to
load, my desktop and tool bars can be locked up for minutes at a time.
Meanwhile, there is no indication that the folder is loading.

I know that you guys are fond of marking usability bugs as "wishlist"
items and ignoring them, but this is a huge disruption to work flow and
is exactly the sort of thing that serious computer users point to when
they say that "Ubuntu (or Linux in general) just doesn't the polish that
it needs to be usable". In that light, I urge developers to mark this as
a high-priority bug and get it fixed for Hardy, if not sooner.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
