Public bug reported: Hi,
puppetmaster (which was the ruby based server until version 5.x) is outdated and as far as I know not supported/patched/developed anymore. It had been superseded by puppetserver, which, to the best of my knowledge, came as a jruby app under version 6 to be run with java, and now comes written in clojure in version 7, still to be run with java run time. Client side is still running under regular ruby. I've tested javaserver 7 as a docker app, and there are some differences, but not a big deal. Pretty easy to install the server with either docker or the deb packages provided by puppetlabs, and to use their deb or just the ruby gem as the client. However: It is definitely not recommendable to go into Ubuntu 22.04 with an outdated and unsupported puppet 5. You should make a decision whether to further provide puppet as an ubuntu package and thus do the upgrade now to have it tested in Ubuntu 21.10, or to completely drop puppet from ubuntu and leave it to the installation ways described above. Both would be ok to live with, but not having outdated packages in ubuntu. BTW, didn't see it as a snap. regards Hadmut ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1935772 Title: puppetmaster deprecated/outdated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1935772/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
