Hello, Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. From the bug description it seems that the /usr/share/mysql-common/configure-symlinks file is missing:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-server-8.0.postinst: line 191: /usr/share/mysql-common/configure-symlinks: No such file or directory However, I noticed something different here. From the DpkgTerminalLog.txt, I see the following line: mysql-common:amd64 (5.8+1.0.5ubuntu2, 1:10.6.3+maria~hirsute) ...which means that this problem happens because of the conflict b/w mariadb (probably being installed from third-party sources) and installing mysql-server via apt. It would be advisable to remove the third-party sources and purge mariadb and re-install mysql-server and then things should work fine, without any problems. As this looks like local corruption or misconfiguration, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this report as Invalid for the moment. If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.
