I realize the last post here was almost two years ago, but I am new to Ubuntu, having recently wiped my drive to completely remove Windows from my laptop. Funny enough, my reason for getting rid of Windows was that they kept re-installing an update that interfered with printing to a shared printer. Now, with Ubuntu, I'm happy to be done with Windows and vow never to go back...but I'm still having problems printing. I found this post because I'm experiencing these exact symptoms, but the suggested solution does not work. Is anybody working on a fix? Is there a work-around? I have a very stable Windows 7 desktop that is always on...connected via USB to an old HP Laserjet IV Plus that is a workhorse. The printer works great locally, and until a few weeks ago it was working flawlessly as a shared printer, as well. When I installed Ubuntu and ran into this problem, I tried every suggestion I was able to find on the web, but nothing works. I continue to see this same behavior with the "credentials required" error.
