I met the same problem that Java apps with GUI (such as burp and arduino IDE)froze quickly when I updated from 16.04 to 18.04. I have tried openJDK and Oracle, 8, 11 and 17. And this bug can be reproduced on both ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04, both kernel 4.5 and 5.7. Java programs with CLI only are not affected, such as bfg.
