Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

The volume control applets defaults to CD on my Lenovo 3000 V100,
requiring me to choose either PCM or Speaker as default device before
being able to control the volume of normal playback from the applet.
This is of course not very serous, but since Ubuntu is all about Just
Working, it would be nice to default to something usable, like new to
linux users would expect.

My sound card is:

$ lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)

Please let me know if I can provide you with anymore useful information.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
