Hi Rob, The kernel team enabled Intel IOMMU by default for the 5.15 kernel, since upstream has now turned it on by default.
This happened in: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1951440 We are aware that it will cause boot issues for older hardware that has buggy firmware, and we hope to try get things running at smoothly as we can. I looked up the firmware for your Thinkpad 510, and it seems version 1.52 is the latest. You might have to run with intel_iommu=off, which can be added to your grub config in /etc/default/grub by appending it to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, and running "sudo update-grub". On an installed system, anyway.
