There was an attempt to mark this bug as duplicate of #1957948. The fix provided in 2.54.3+18.04.2ubuntu0.1 should fix #1957948 but not this bug as the --path option of set command is not supported on fish 2.7 (version shipped in ubuntu 18.04).
