Before 22.04 I was able to just uninstall snapd to remove ~/snap, and
that was fine.

But now that Firefox is being delivered as only a Snap in 22.04, I'm
essentially being strong-armed into using snaps, because Firefox is
probably the most critical piece of software on my system and I cannot
work without it.

Given this new situation, the ~/snap folder has gone from an annoyance
that can be fixed by uninstalling snapd, to an intolerable situation
that I will literally switch distros over. It makes me irrationally
angry to have a piece of low-level systems software that I rarely want
to interact with park its junk right in the middle of $HOME, the place
where I organize my personal documents. Why not make ~/dconf or ~/pam
while we're at it?

Please don't make me leave Ubuntu in 22.04 - just move the damn folder
to ~/.snap or even better ~/.local/snap already.

A forums thread was mentioned earlier in this bug report where the snap
maintainers change ~/snap to ~/.snap ... BUT THEN THEY GO ON TO CREATE
~/Snap! Come on!!
