had the same error. Turns out it was due to that 'schemas' folder was not packed into the deb. The extension failed to initialize because some keys were not defined. You will be able to see the detailed error information if you try to open the setting of the extension. A simple workaround is: copy the 'schemas' folder from the release version downloaded from https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/2087/desktop- icons-ng-ding/ into /usr/share/gnome- shell/extensions/d...@rastersoft.com
