Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-session
Hello, I'm testing out Hardy Heron. The live cd works fine, but once installed, I'm unable to log in with gnome. After I type my username and password and press enter, I hear some disk activity, but then the system stops completely. However, there is an error message in .xsession-errors: (I think this is the most releveant part, complete file attached) (process:20800): Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or setgid. This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper program instead. By echo'ing messages in the startup files, I've found out that when /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common-start tries to execute /usr/bin/gnome- session, it hangs. This suggests something is wrong with with /usr/bin /gnome-session. This is on a fresh install from alpha2, only with upgrades applied. I tried installing KDE, and logging in there works fine. Please tell me how I should debug this further, I 'm happy for any suggestions. The computer is a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz, asus P4C800 motherboard with Intel 875 chipset, 1 Gb ram, wired net connection. I suppose more detailed hw info is not required here, but please tell me if I should provide that.
