This can happen if the proper DRM driver takes so long to load that Plymouth decides to use SimpleDRM instead. Two ways to mitigate that: * Modify the heuristic in plymouth that makes SimpleDRM use scale 200% too much. * Modify the initrd or other boot processes to ensure the proper DRM driver is not delayed.
That second one is intentional at the moment. We keep the full DRM drivers out of initrd to keep its size under control.
