This bug still happens with Gutsy and the old i810 driver when coming back from suspend to ram (suspend to disk is fine). The new intel driver is not an option since it crashes on suspend, see corresponding report.
On my X40 with 855GM chipset the above "SWCursor" workaround works (but is not compatible with DRI). See "man i810" for details.
