This behavior happens to me as well. Quite annoying, but I do not agree that this is a showstopper. My workaround is to Restore, then Maximize to fix the drawing error. I have to do this for each window that is restored in Maximized state. This bug relates to Gnome's restoration of maximized windows' sizes/states: bug 12956.
